College Libraries

The MVCC Libraries on the Utica and Rome campuses provide students, faculty, and staff with resources and services which promote information literacy and support the teaching, learning, and recreational interests of the College community.

Librarians provide research assistance via online chat, text, phone, email, virtual conferencing software, and in-person consultations. Librarians also provide individual and group instruction designed to help students learn to conduct research effectively and develop information literacy skills.

Online resources for coursework and research through the Libraries webpage:

Computer Labs

Utica Campus

The College maintains PC and Mac labs on its Utica Campus for specific course use and open-use computers in the Library and the Learning Commons.

Each lab has at least one laser printer. While all PC labs support the latest Microsoft Office Suite, there are many specialized applications, such as AutoCAD, Solidworks, Adobe Creative Suite, 3D Studio Max, and Microsoft Visual Basic, available for specific departmental programs in designated labs.

The College provides network connectivity in classrooms and many have been converted to “Smart Classrooms” where instructors can employ various multimedia presentations. MVCC maintains a wireless network on both the Utica and Rome campuses, which is available for student use. Each student has access to an individual account complete with network storage and email.

Rome Campus

Similar to the Utica Campus, the Rome Campus maintains PC labs that include an open-use lab and labs that provide software for specific courses. Labs have at least one laser printer. Students on the Rome Campus have the same access to the internet as those on the Utica Campus.

Website

MVCC has a comprehensive website that provides a variety of information, including program and course listings, department pages, the ability to register for courses, check financial aid, and make payments online. It also provides access to Brightspace, our internet-based distance-learning environment. Visit www.mvcc.edu for the latest information.

Mandia Family Learning Commons

Research on student success shows that learners benefit from engaged conversation, supported intellectual risk-taking, collaborative learning spaces, and access to current technologies. The Learning Commons provides these in the form of holistic on-campus and online tutoring, an open computer lab, a drop-in math lab, writing and research assistance, technology support, and a community of peers and professionals dedicated to student-centered learning.

Research also argues that well-being is inseparable from academic success. The Learning Commons peer support team facilitates well-being through a peer listening service, accountability partnering, wellness programming, and by connecting students with resources within and beyond the college.

One-on-one appointments for math, writing, subject-specific tutoring, and peer support are available throughout the week, and services are free for all students.

Visit www.mvcc.edu/learning-commons for a complete listing of support services.

State Authorization for Online Education Delivery

MVCC has received approval to engage in the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements.

In accordance with federal regulations, institutions of higher education that receive Title IV funding and provide degree programs via distance or online education to students located in other states are required to obtain authorization from those states to offer such programs.

MVCC is actively working to adhere to the regulations of each state and to secure the necessary authorization to continue delivering our online degree programs. As a participant in the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA), MVCC is permitted to offer its online degree programs to residents of all other states that are members of NC-SARA.
